CIMA to host student conference for Central Southern England

18 August 2006

CIMA (The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) is hosting its second annual Student Conference for Central Southern England on Saturday 16 September 2006 in Reading.

Following the success of its first Student Conference held last year, CIMA is very pleased to announce its second such event for Central Southern England. This conference is a must for any students who have questions or need advice on exam techniques, would like to find out about job opportunities, or need help on planning their career. This is a great opportunity for anyone planning on sitting exams in November.

A varied programme of presentations will run throughout the day, provided by experts including industry renowned professionals, CIMA staff and membership assessors. The one-day event will offer the following:

  • hints and tips on exam techniques
  • an update on the syllabus and where students fit into CIMA
  • tips on building a career and getting that prime job
  • ethics and the CIMA Accountant
  • time value of money / discounted cash flow techniques – at both Managerial and Strategic Levels
  • principles of business tax (Managerial Level)
  • business valuation and acquisition (Strategic Level)

Speakers at the event will include:

  • Ian Christison, Immediate Past President, CIMA
  • Julia Brown, Student Support Manager, CIMA
  • Jake Claret, FCMA
  • Marcus Dankwah, John Sparrow, and David Wilson, FTC Kaplan

In addition, senior local CIMA members will be on hand to give you advice on getting the right experience to qualify, recruitment consultants will give advice on finding the right jobs and planning your career, and FTC Kaplan will share their knowledge about CIMA study courses.

Robert Jelly, Director of Education, CIMA, said:

“We welcome current or potential CIMA students to this great event where the agenda is to give people the opportunity to directly ask us any questions that they have regarding all aspects of being a CIMA student.  We will be touching on many relevant areas throughout the course of the day.

"This Student Conference is an exciting event for us and we are hoping it will continue to successfully reach and inform the students that represent us in this Area.”
