CIMA (The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) has joined b-live to create SLAM DUNK an on-line basketball game management contest for Year 11, 12 and 13 students. The game goes live on 6 November and lasts for three weeks. Students can register to take part in the game from 30 October on the b-live website. A winner will be announced for each age group.
SLAM DUNK contestants will be acting as Financial Directors and will be solely responsible for the survival of their basketball team. They will be making decisions such as selecting a budget-friendly coach to securing high-profile sponsorship. Every decision made will play a part in determining the team’s final ranking. The contestant who makes all the right moves and whose team survives the game with the most financial security will be the overall winner of the game and will be awarded a Sony Playstation PSP at their school. A winner will also be announced for each of the remaining two years and they will receive a prize of an Ipod Nano. Winners will be announced in December.
While SLAM DUNK is fun and fast-paced, it also gives students a chance to directly exercise curriculum-based skills in areas such as Business Studies, ICT, Mathematics and Economics. For students considering a career in accountancy, this is the perfect opportunity to put their suitability to the test.
The game is designed to highlight the process involved in management accountancy. It involves evaluating and interpreting financial information in order to make strategic decisions about the future direction of a business. Management accountants are important members of any management team - many end up as Finance Directors or even Chief Executives of top ranking organisations.
Robert Jelly, Director of Education at CIMA said: “We have partnered with b-live to create this fantastic game to highlight the benefits of the CIMA qualification to Year 11-13 students. The CIMA qualification is unlike other accounting and financial qualifications, as it offers many career options throughout business and is internationally recognised. Students doing the CIMA qualification acquire key decision making, management, strategic and analytical skills that can be applied to any role.”
