The Investigation Committee found a prima facie case for Mr Anthony Mead FCMA to answer concerning an allegation that his conduct, resulting in an order made by the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAEW) disclosed misconduct; with his agreement the Investigation Committee of the ICAEW had made an order that he be severely reprimanded, fined £2,500 and pay costs of £1000 with respect to a complaint that on 2 March 2000 and 20 March 2001, he had issued an unqualified audit report, in the name of his firm, X, on the financial statements of Y for the years ended 31 December 1999 and 2000 respectively when the audits of the Group's Y based subsidiaries had not been conducted in accordance with auditing standards generally accepted in the United States of America.
Pursuant to Members’ Regulation 6.3 (iii) and Council Regulation 16, the Committee invited Mr Mead to consent to the imposition of a severe reprimand by way of ‘consent order’, without further proceedings, to which Mr Mead agreed. The Committee recorded a finding upholding the complaint, issuing an order for the imposition of a severe reprimand.
