Robin Vaughan joined CIMA in 2006 and as its Director of Professional Standards is responsible for the development and maintenance of Professional Standards for management accountants, including oversight of mandatory CPD. He leads the regulation of members of the Institute, managing the relationship with the independent regulatory framework for the profession and supports the CIMA Chief Executive and President in profession wide (CCAB) interchanges.
Robin studied Philosophy at the University of Kent. On leaving it he joined the Civil Service but after two years left and since then his career has been based in the professions. He worked at the Bar of England and Wales for the Council of Legal Education where he was responsible for the delivery of the Bar Vocational Course and allied matters relating to legal education.
He then moved to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales as the Secretary of its then Board for Chartered Accountants in Business where he was responsible for providing strategies, policies and services in support of business members. In 2000 he became Registrar of the Architects Registration Board where he was responsible for maintaining the statutory register of architects and for establishing standards for qualifications for architects on entry to the profession and in their professional practice thereafter.
In 2004 Robin was appointed to a voluntary role on the Board of the Quality Assurance Agency for higher education whose mission is to safeguard the public interest in sound standards of higher education qualifications and to inform and encourage continuous improvement in the management of the quality of higher education.
