The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) today announced the appointment of Damian Yip as Divisional Director, Hong Kong. It is a dedicated role that has primary responsibilities for Hong Kong and re-affirms the Institute's commitment to grow CIMA’s presence in the market.  Mr Yip brings to CIMA extensive management experience in major corporations, international educational institutes and professional bodies in Hong Kong.

Apart from managing the Hong Kong office and overseeing member activities, Mr Yip will also be in charge of promoting CIMA with ongoing dialogues with senior management among targeted employers, education providers and professional bodies. He will also be responsible for maintaining strong governance support for the institute.

Mr Yip has a masters degree in engineering and management from the University of Birmingham and an MBA from The University Strathclyde Business School, UK. He has also attended the Swire Management Program held by INSEAD.

Kathy Grimshaw, Director of International Development, CIMA, commented: “We are confident that with the appointment of our new divisional director, CIMA will continue to grow in Hong Kong and develop and uphold professional standards for management accounting professionals. Given Hong Kong’s strategic position as a regional financial centre and a gateway to China, the demand for CIMA education and services has been steadily growing. We are making a strong and concerted effort in enlarging the membership base, reaching out to more students and employers and developing relationships with key stakeholders. I am positive that we will see vigorous growth in Greater China over the next few years.”

Michael Chan FCMA, President of CIMA Hong Kong Division, said: “CIMA members are highly regarded for their management and accounting competence and professional standards. It is the objective of CIMA Hong Kong to share these valuable experiences with the industry and society. The new divisional director appointment will greatly boost our efforts to promote continuing professional development for these purposes.  Our student recruitment as well as partnership with employers and educators’ programmes will be enhanced significantly.”

Prior to the new appointment, Mr Yip was the chief representative of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in Hong Kong, where his primary responsibilities included expanding the membership base as well as managing services provision for members in the territory.

Mr Yip was also director of APMI Kaplan, a company of Kaplan, one of the largest private sector educators in the region, with services ranging from exam preparation courses for ACCA/HKICPA to PhD degrees from renowned institutes around the world.
