CIMA has teamed up with KPMG on the TACIS Accounting Reform in Russia project, devoted to the development of management accounting in Russian enterprises and assisting the Ministry of Economic Development in this area.

Confidence in the system of management accounting will help investors and shareholders assess the soundness of investment indicators and the valuation of companies in Russia. The development of management accounting will allow the directors of companies to make well-founded and prompt decisions on the basis of the information presented, successfully control the efficient use of the company's resources, and improve the quality of corporate governance and labour productivity at Russian companies.

An Expert Advisory Council on management accounting has been established under the Russian Federation (RF) Ministry of Economic Development. A.V. Sharonov, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the RF, has been appointed as the chairman of the Council.

A recent conference in Moscow, attended by 150 delegates, summed up the latest developments in this exciting project including the results of a survey of the current state of management accounting in Russian companies.

Representatives from CIMA, including Vice-President Claire Ighodaro, Technical Director Richard Mallett, and Director of International Development Katherine Grimshaw, presented their international experience in developing a professional qualification in management accounting, while Geoffrey Townsend, KPMG partner spoke about the concept of creating a Russian Institute of Management Accounting.

Other speakers at the conference included Tseren Tserenov, Deputy Head of Enterprise Economics Department of the Ministry of Economic Development, Andrea Fontana, the European Commission Delegation in Russia representative, Richard Glasspool, KPMG partner and Mikael Gorsky, Director of the Foundation for International Accounting in Russia (FIAR).
