Leaders of International Accountancy Profession to meet in London

04 February 2005

The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) will be holding a meeting of 40 representatives of the international accountancy profession, including 32 chief executives of national accountancy institutes and regional accountancy organizations at the London Headquarters of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) on Monday 7 February and Tuesday 8 February 2005. The meeting will be chaired by IFAC President Graham Ward and will address a number of subjects affecting the profession today. These include:

  • IFAC’s role in meeting the needs of professional accountants in business
  • The needs of the profession in developing nations and how IFAC and its members can best address these needs
  • Corporate governance
  • International convergence
  • The needs of small and medium practices (SMPs) and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs)
  • Professional liability

Graham Ward, IFAC President, commenting on the event, said "Given the increasingly important role of professional accountants in business as the drivers of strategy and efficiency and as guardians of financial information, it is appropriate that we are holding this meeting at CIMA, which is a leading representative of this constituency."

"Our discussions will focus on two major issues: first, how IFAC can best support the entire profession, including those in large and small businesses and practices in delivering the high quality work the public rightfully expects from us and second, on development of the profession, especially in developing and emerging markets, as part of the process of building stronger, more stable economies," adds Mr. Ward.
