Charity commission invites members to make SORPs
The Charity Commission for England and Wales and Scottish regulator the OSCR are recruiting members for a new SORP-making committee. A recruitment pack, available on the Charity Commission website or the OSCR website, provides further information, including details of how to apply.
Main tasks and activities
Members of the committee will:
- attend meetings of the statement of recommended practice (SORP) committee
- contribute to projects and activities
- help to champion the work of the committee, and
- provide support and advice to the committee chair.
They should be able to form and maintain excellent working relationships with fellow committee members and the sector at large. Successful applicants should obtain the permission of their employer to participate in the work of the SORP committee.
Key skills and experience
A track record in two or more of these areas will be needed:
- regulation of charities
- knowledge of accounting standards
- awareness of reporting and accounting issues in the emerging sector
- the application or dissemination of best reporting and accounting practice
- commercial and business experience
- risk management
Plus:
- experience and knowledge of the charity sector gained as a senior employee, adviser, auditor or trustee of a charity
- experience of contributing to the governance, reporting or accounting arrangements for an organisation
- strong credentials as an effective team player and team builder
- experience of acting as a spokesperson/ambassador for an organisation in its communications with external and internal stakeholders
- good communication and influencing skills.
The closing date for applications is 5.00pm on Friday 22 September 2006.
Appointment is for a fixed term of three years with the possibility of extension. Time commitment is expected to be around six days a year. Membership is unpaid, and expenses will only be paid under certain circumstances (outlined in the recruitment pack).
